I woke up incredibly late today, which is perfect because I need lots of rest. And I wouldn’t be swimming till Monday anyway..
We were kind of done waiting at home so we decided to go to Canterbury! It’s about a half-hour drive and there’s a beautiful cathedral there. First we went for a drink somewhere on the terrace and afterwards we went to the cathedral. The crypt was closed till 14:30 for a wedding but until that time we could visit the rest of the church.
The church itself was a little boring. Well it looked nice of course but we’ve seen so many churches so it’s just nearly the same as all the other. But it was beautiful, especially when we got outside. It looked like Disney had inspired his castle on what we saw. Just old and pretty! 🙂 And the weather was great: sunny and warm and just wonderful in the gardens outside.
Then the wedding had finished and we saw the bride and groom come outside. So much happiness! 🙂 Aaand, we could go in the crypt which I personally find more interesting. We went into a little side chapel, it was cute and all the ceiling paintings had been worn off by time.
Just as we exited the cathedral I got a call from Tracy. We would be meeting at the marina in Dover at 8:00am, my Channel Swim starts tomorrow!! And with a different pilot and boat: Lance Oram (Michael Oram’s son) with the Sea Satin. He was available earlier and Sunday also looked like a better day than Monday. Monday was already becoming less perfect..
I am so excited and nervous and scared and I just don’t know how to feel!
We got some quick lunch in Canterbury before heading back to Varne Ridge Camp where Tracy would meet us for a quick chat. She said that of course it would get rough but that she believes in me and would do everything to help me get to France! We went through what we needed to prepare for tomorrow, what I would eat for dinner and for breakfast, that I needed to put on sunscreen, all those sorts of things.
But most important of all: get rest! Take a deep breath and calm down. Visualise getting to France. Sleep early and a lot. Tracy also put me on social media ban (after posting that I am ready to go swim tomorrow morning). It’s important to get everything ready and to get in the right mindset now.
I’m just really glad I don’t have to wait an extra day. I’m ready!
I am a nineteen-year-old girl from Baambrugge, a tiny village near Amsterdam, with big ambitions. I like to set big goals for myself, I like to explore my own boundaries and see if I can expand them.
