Today was a quiet day. I went for a swim in the harbour again. There were some stronger currents this time. My mom found it funny to see me swim one way pretty slowly and the other way speedy-gonzales. Also when I tried to swim to the beach I kept being swept to one side and having to swim diagonally towards the beach again. English Channel, the currents are strong within you! 😉
Then I just rested in bed, played some games, read a little and I tracked Alessandra and followed the progression of her Channel Swim. She started last night and the weather suddenly changed. The wind was strong, the waves were high and currents wouldn’t let her get to shore.. But she made it and I’m so incredibly happy for her and I admire her persistence and willpower! I think it was good that Tracy was on the boat with her because she’s very positive and motivational and knows how to get you to keep going!
Overall it was great to track/follow someone you ‘know’ crossing the English Channel. You really live with them and I even got a little emotional when I saw how rough it was and how she was just pushing on. It looks like a magnificent experience, with all its ups and downs! The water looks beautiful and magical and I imagine it must feel amazing to swim across the Channel. Can’t wait for my swim!
Though I do have to wait quite a while.. Tracy texted me when she got back that Monday morning has been confirmed by my pilot. At first I felt disappointment. We all thought I’d be swimming Saturday and we’d been kind of living up to the moment. I was so ready to go, I couldn’t wait any longer, I was anxious to start!
But because the water has suddenly gotten so rough it needs a while to settle down. Monday looks like a perfect day though, better than Saturday! The water is warmer, the air temperature is higher, with windforce 1-2, and waves of 10cm high. At least that’s what it looks like for now, after all, weather is unpredictable. 😉
It took a little mindset change but a few more days of mental preparation can never hurt. What helps is that it’s confirmed so I’ll definitely start my Channel Swim Monday morning! Now we can live up to that moment, until then, rest and a lot of visualisation where I see myself reaching France, phoning my boyfriend that I did it, celebrating with champagne! But most of the all, the unique experience of swimming in that gorgeous blue water on a beautiful sunny day! 🙂
